• Disk fragmentation severely affects the performance of every computer system - even the most advanced systems on the market. Fragmentation is a condition in which files and free space are broken into pieces and are scattered across a disk. Files fragmented into 100 pieces take 100 times longer to access. Files broken into 200,000 pieces could take 200,000 times longer...and that is just one computer and one file. The mathematics of a day's work on an entire network is staggering!
  
  
• Diskeeper safely eliminates the bottleneck of fragmentation - guaranteed. System administrators find it easy to install and operate. And with a Diskeeper license installed on every box in the network, administrators can control defragmentation throughout their Windows NT network, right from their desks.
  
  
• According to Microsoft Press: "Disk fragmentation can cause performance problems. You should consider running a defragmentation program on a regular basis." - From Microsoft Windows NT Server Resource Guide.
  
  
• Fragmented paging files can slow Windows NT performance. The paging file fragments also break up free space on the partition. By defragmenting your paging files, you can help maintain peak Windows NT performance! The paging file feature defragments the Windows NT paging file into a single location. This is done at boot-time, since the paging file cannot safely be moved or defragmented while a disk partition is being accessed by other applications or users.
  
  
• Diskeeper carefully moves, consolidates and defragments directory files at boot-time. And, because some disks have one or two directories which cannot be moved, EVER, Diskeeper has a safety feature which recognizes - and bypasses - these directories.
  
  
• Diskeeper can defragment disks while the system is in use with users active on the same disks. During most of the time Diskeeper is processing a file, it shares the file with any other users that may access the same file. The last step of processing the file, however, involves locking the file for a very brief period - a matter of milliseconds, there is never an interruption as a result of this.
  

V 10 New Features

• Diskeeper 10 contains the new revolutionary technology called “Intelligent File Access Acceleration Sequencing Technology” or I-FAAST for short. This proprietary new breakthrough technology includes a dynamicself-learning mechanism that monitors your systems file and disk usage and takes specialised actions to increase creation and access speed of essential files up to an additional 80%, with an average gain of 10 to 20%. This gain is in addition to benefits achieved from defragmentation alone.
  
  
• In order to keep up with the increase in disk space and the use of large files (such as database files, CAD/CAM files, system images, multimedia-DVD files, etc), Diskeeper 10 now provides a new application of the method that defragments very large files to a point of returned performance. Users will notice that defragmenting large files
  requires few system resources and in fact they will not notice it has occurred. This method is now an ancillary option that can be combined with other methods such as: Quick Defrag, Max Disk Performance and Comprehensive.
  
  
• Free space consolidation has been improved in DK 10. Users can now select a “Comprehensive” method from the “Defragmentation Options” dialog box. Scheduled defragmentation jobs will completely
  consolidate the free space on the volume in most cases where adequate free space is available. One immediate benefit of free space consolidation is that a big contiguous free space gives Diskeeper more space to move and defragment very large files.
  
  
• Scheduling is now more intuitive and easier to use in Diskeeper 10. When users select to set a custom schedule, they are presented with options in the “Set It and Forget It” tab of the main UI that are easy to use and familiar to them. They can quickly choose what they need with no uncertainty.
  
  
• Diskeeper 10 users will have the option to view a visual depiction of past fragmentation levels. Daily and cumulative summaries are saved. Cumulative summary stats are maintained for the length of time the product is installed. When users launch menu options from system status area, they can view cumulative count on total number of fragments eliminated.
  
  
• Once installed, Diskeeper 10 will have options to automatically check the Diskeeper website for updates on a periodic basis. The options will include the ability to receive notifications of the availability of a new update, e.g., a balloon tip is shown in the system tray about an update. Users can click on the balloon tip and immediately download and run the update installation, or they can schedule the download and update installation for later. When running the update installation, users have the option to save all previous settings.
  
  
• While users now have I/O Smart that causes defragmentation to suspend and allow other disk activity to occur unhindered, it has been discovered that improvements can be made to guarantee almost no performance hit (less than 1% - about .7% as tested). These new enhancements will be offered in Diskeeper 10.
  
  
• Full support for 64-bit computing environments. 9. Enhancements to current “Smart Scheduling” intelligence to include the ability to more closely monitor fragmentation build up, enhancing Diskeeper's response to ensure that your system is never affected by fragmentation.
