- 1. Replicated Disk Resource :
The GeoCluster Replicated Disk resource provides control of data replication within the cluster. For example, if Exchange is storing its data on drive D:, the Double-Take GeoCluster Replicated Disk resource would be created in the Exchange resource group to replicate data to D: of the other cluster nodes. When Exchange is running on Node 1, the contents of drive D: would be automatically replicated from Node 1 to Node 2 in real-time. If Exchange is moved to Node 2, the contents of the D: drive on node 2 would be synchronized with drive D: on node 1 to maintain a mirror image. Multiple Replicated Disk resources can be created for each cluster group and drive, as needed, allowing groups and applications to be moved independently. In the case of clusters with greater than two nodes, the Replicated Disk resource will replicate from the current node to all other eligible nodes for that resource.
- 2. Quorum Capability :
A quorum resource is required in every MSCS cluster to provide many administrative functions regarding cluster membership and resource ownership. MSCS requires the quorum resource to be a shared physical disk that can be accessed by any node in the cluster via SCSI or Fibre Channel. GeoCluster provides a quorum function that provides this arbitration over standard network mechanisms. In addition to monitoring heartbeat messages being exchanged between each node, the GeoCluster quorum function allows you to specify a list of arbitration shares anywhere on the network that are used to arbitrate for ownership of cluster resources. A node must be able to access and control a majority of arbitration shares in order to acquire or maintain control of the cluster. The GeoCluster quorum function prevents both nodes from claiming a cluster resource such as a network name or IP address creating a conflict or causing data corruption.
